Project - Mountain View

Project Name: Capoeira for Empowerment and Peace Programme (CEPP)
Location: Mountain View, Kingston
Supported by: Capoeira Alafia/GCC-J, Young Americas Business Trust (YABT)/Organization of the American States (OAS), UNICEF
Implementation period: July 2005 - May 2007
Project Description: Capoeira training has been offered twice per week to the residents of the Mountain View community. A core group of approximately 15 students between 4 and 19 years old attended classes regularly and showed great interest while a much larger group attended the trainings sessions sporadically. Ten students received their first Capoeira belt, rewarding them for their dedication and progress.

Students regularly took part in shows, demonstrations and meetings with students from other communities.

Through the project one adult member of the group found full-time employment at the Programme for the Development of Human Potential (PDHP). He is now working with special needs students and able to support his family.

Good relations to parents have been established and many adult community members showed their support by encouraging their sons and daughters to participate.
